Want to lower or raise your Type 1 or Type 3? We have an excellent option that will make your installation and adjustments a TON easier. Install our adjustable spring plates. Simply set the splines up close to where you plan on having the final ride height be. Once installed, you will have approximately 2" to 3" of final adjustment to make your ride PERFECTLY where you want it.
One common thing that happens on vintage VW's is they tend to sag lower on the driver's side. This is because there is ALWAYS a driver in the car, and only sometimes a passenger. Therefore, with more weight on that side cruising around for some 40-50 years, the torsions tend to sag more on the driver's side. Knowing from experience, there is nothing worse that completing a spring plate drop, and finding out that the car is too low on the driver's side. These spring plate solve that issue. A single allen screw adjustment allows you to set ride height on one side or the other in just a few seconds.
Tips for measuring the ones you need:
- If you have no bar sticking out of your spring plate cap, order the ones for 21-3/4" bars (short bars)
- If you have approximately 4" from the end of the bar sticking out, to the plate itself, order the ones for 24-11/16" bars (medium bars)
- If you have approximately 6" from the end of the bar sticking out, to the plate itself, order the ones for 26-9/16" bars (long bars)
Don't forget to order the matching urethane bushings!!! Since these spring plates are two-piece, and heavy duty (thicker), it is recommended to install them with special urethane bushings that are a different diameter than stock.
These fit Bugs, Ghias, Type 3's and Things. No buses, sorry!
