Norris has been making performance VW cams since the early 60's, and are pioneers since the very early days of VW racing.  To this day, they make some of the very best cams around, matching them to almost any VW engine configuration. We're proud to carry a full selection of these cams in stock, and can special order even more for specific racing applications.  From bone stock, to all out drag racing, we have a Norris cam that matches your exact needs.

All Norris cams are manufactured from the highest quality proferal billets, and will work with 40HP engines, single port 1600 or dual port 1600 based builds.  All Norris cams require the early "flat" style cam gear.  Each cam comes with the three correct bolts to secure it to the gear.  We have several different cam gears available as an option that match these cams well  The USA-made aluminum cam gears work fine on most any application, except engines that are equipped with dual valve springs and revved higher than 6000 RPM's.  For the more mild applications, EMPI cam gears will work fine, too.  If you want the utmost in performance, steel straight-cut cam gears work excellent on any engine and any RPM range.  Since they are straight cut, they will eliminate the thrust load on the cam bearings, freeing up some power and minimizing wear.  Straight-cuts do make a very distinctive "whine" sound, which some people really like, and others don't.

Norris no longer makes lifters, we recommend using quality Scat lifters, as these have proven to match these cams very well.  We have two different lifters that we use to match them.  The standard lifters work great for most any application.  The lightweight 75-gram lifters also come with an oiling hole in the center that lubricated the camshaft.  For racing applications, using a lightweight valve train and this extra oiling will help keep things working well together, particularly at higher RPM's.

Lobe centers are all ground at 107 degrees for maximum power in the low RPM range, all the way up to whichever power band you choose the cam to match.

#355S - THE "STREET/STRIP" STROKER CAM - This cam is a great choice for cars that want to go fast, especially when equipped with a stroker crankshaft of 78mm or larger. With a smaller crank, we've found it to pull very evenly from the bottom end of the power band, all the way up to the top.  It's not a "punchy" type cam with lots of power in one area of the RPM range.  It's more of a "puller" kind of cam: Very even, and not "peaky" It will work in a variety of applications such as off-road, street, or strip.  We've run it on 1679cc's to 2332cc's. It can be used with 1.1:1, 1.25:1, or 1.4:1 ratio rockers, but 1.25's or 1.4's are recommended... maybe even a combination of the two.  Ported heads are recommended as are counterweighted crank, etc.  With the right combo, it can make power up to 7200 RPM's.  It's nice and smooth around the street, yet really packs a punch at the track when set up properly.
